Watch the Big Boy online guitar lesson by Jason Loughlin from 30 Country Jazz Licks You MUST Know

Junior Barnard was Bob Wills' guitarist in the mid 40’s. He had knack for swinging through The Playboy’s tunes while keeping one foot rooted in the blues. Junior’s sound was always a little raunchier than his peers. He played a large body archtop into a low wattage Epiphone amp which was always breaking up a little. You can hear his playing on “Fat Boy Rag” and “Barnard Blues”. This lick comes for his work with The McKinney Sisters on a tune called "Don't Sweetheart Me". The progression could be labeled as rhythm changes; Junior plays through it as if it's all over Bb. This lick is rooted in traditional jazz, sounding more like a clarinet line than a guitar line. All very simple and right in key with the exception of a couple b3rds.
