Watch the Outrun The Train online guitar lesson by Ladd Smith from Modern Nashville Guitar

Alright, now we're moving into one of the licks I get asked to show other guitarists the most. The key to this type of stuff is all in the right hand method. You cannot expect this Brent Mason lick to sound right until you develop your right hand technique and really get that muscle memory into shape with lots of practicing. There are a couple of neat tricks on this segment. Also I mention how a compressor can help you get a woofy punchy sound, I prefer the Keeley 4 knob compressor for this type of sound by the way. It can add so much to your sound and I can't tell you how much having the right tone will inspire you to put in the hours to get this stuff into your psyche until it's second nature. That's really the 'big secret' with any new style you want to tackle; consistent repetition, that stuff is magical.
