Watch the Outrun The Train online guitar lesson by Ladd Smith from Modern Nashville Guitar

Okay, remember when I said that I really put a lot of my favorite country licks into this one song? Well here's another one of them. As soon as we walk up to B and kind of play the melody again on that major scale, we hit this big unison bend lick that moves up a super secret hidden horizontal scale (shhh!). This is absolutely one of my favorite licks and something that I discovered years ago, jumping four spaces at a time with this unison bend on the G/B strings really twists the ear and is very much inspired by Vince Gill. Again, someone that you should definitely investigate the more you get into this Tele type stuff. You can always pick Vince's playing out of a crowd because of how he uses so many unison and pedal-steel bends in his phrasing. He also does quite a few double stops like the ones we go over in the last part of this verse.
