Watch the Clouds online guitar lesson by Ladd Smith from Modern Nashville Guitar

I run through the chord progression a little here right before I show you the first run. I used a lot of 'Butterfly' hammer-on-pull-offs, some tasty dual note bends and volume swells on this track with the Visual Volume pedal. This takes the pick attack off of the beginning of the phrase which is a common technique used by Pedal-Steel guitarists and it makes for a nice smooth effect. There are a lot of double noted slides and bends here, sometimes adding a harmonizing note to a melody line can add so much to the rich full sound of a recording. There's something so magical about harmony notes that bend and move around the melody together, if you've ever listened to the Everly Brothers you'll know what I'm talking about. This approach can really thicken up a track when your playing fills behind the lead vocals also.
