Watch the Pickin' 3rds: Study 2 online guitar lesson by Jason Loughlin from Country Guitar Survival Guide: Lead Edition
In the last instrumental study we've learned some of the ways thirds can move across the neck and be played over chords. Now we are going to start embellishing the interval. With the fretting hand I'll be adding approach notes, pull-offs, slides, hammer-ons and open strings. Some of these approach notes will just be a half step into the third and some will be muted chromatic triplet runs. In some cases I'll be approaching the top note of the interval in others the bottom. There are so many musical ideas that come out of embellishing intervals. In the previous study I kept the right hand pattern the same to avoid confusion. In this study our right hand will to play different hybrid picking patterns to accommodate the left hand embellishments.
