Watch the Bending 3rds: Study 2 online guitar lesson by Jason Loughlin from Country Guitar Survival Guide: Lead Edition

This instrumental study will use the interval of a third as a springboard for bending. This concept was one of the things that drew me into country guitar. Some of my favorite rock players even use this technique in really tasty ways. It's best used as a way to emulate pedal steel guitar solos. A great way to build a vocabulary of pedal steel ideas is to actually go learn pedal steel solos. I love Lloyd Green's playing on The Byrds record Sweetheart of the Rodeo. It's just chock full of great fills and hooks. There is no shortage of great steel players to learn from. Going through the bending section of this course will expose you to a lot of the different ways you can emulate steel players. This example has us bending into the third interval using half steps, diatonic steps and using bend releases. Do your best to let the notes ring into each other.
