Watch the Study 1: Baker's Dozen online guitar lesson by Jason Loughlin from Country Guitar Survival Guide: Rhythm
Our first study is inspired by the great country shuffles of the Bakersfield Sound. Some of the defining characteristics are the drums playing a shuffle against a walking bass line. This is one of the few times you here walking bass in country rather than the alternating root to 5th. Our electric can double the bass's walking line with a strong accent on the root of every chord, strum the upbeats, play the backbeat or do a combination of these. I go two times through the form. First, doubling the bass and then combining the bass line with our upbeat accent.
