Watch the Banjo Roll: Solo 2 online guitar lesson by Joe Dalton from Big Twang
Most banjo sounds we are familiar with don't make use of bends. Here, I use some bends to get the notes that give a more melodic roll. The dominant seventh sound seems to add a little bite to the bluegrass sound. The sound jumps right out at you.
Repetition is the nature of the beast but can also lead to monotony. Having some variations in the bag of banjo tricks is essential. This includes rhythmic variations. In the third chorus you will hear "less is more" at work. Fewer notes add to the syncopation.
