Watch the Rosebud Woogie online guitar lesson by Ray Nijenhuis from 50 Western Swing Licks You MUST Know

This 8 bar run in the style of Texas troubadour Leon Rhodes is based on diatonic notes only. That means that both the arpeggios and scales used here only contain notes that belong to the particular scale the arpeggio is derived from. Sounds boring huh? Well, lick number 37 is about how you can still create an exciting run despite the lack of altered notes. One of the means to do so is to fool around with patterns, turning rhythms inside out and upside down. You can use an odd repetitive 3 note pattern in a 4/4 bar, for example. That way you can create cool syncopated, swinging licks.
