Watch the The Hilander online guitar lesson by Jason Loughlin from 50 Country Masters Licks You MUST Know

This lick is based on some of the double stop bends that Johnny Hiland is known for. Johnny Hiland hit the ground running with his debut record released in 2004. He came onto the scene in Nashville where he was primarily known as a country guitar player and a great tele player. Johnny has played with country greats like Ricky Skaggs and Randy Travis. So we’re going to look at a lick where he moves down through a chord scale connecting each of the triads with some kind of double stop bend. Then we’re going to move into some of his oblique bends, which is where he holds one note and keeps it sustaining while doing a bend release on a higher string, creating sort of a faux-pedal steel guitar technique.
