Watch the Western Swing Rhythm online guitar lesson by Joe Dalton from 50 Country Guitar Licks You MUST Know
Most of the time we keep to the top four strings. In a western swing groove the rhythm guitar plays long short long short. The short (staccato) comes on beats two and four. This is a form of "sock" rhythm. I use 6th and 9th chords. This adds more color. Remember this is a western swing style. Don't use this when you are playing jazz or Nashville shuffles.
