Watch the Etude No.1 in E minor online guitar lesson by Tony Smotherman from Classical Flatpicking Explorations
The two ingredients to this piece are changing chord shapes accurately and the right hand picking. This piece is in E minor, but you'll notice chord shapes that are not at all common. When playing the minor 7 flat 5 chord that moves down in half steps, it helps to stay focused on cross picking the arpeggios while keeping the left hand holding down one chord shape. Notice the interesting picking pattern that gives this piece such a unique sound. The harmonics at the end are melodic and bring the piece to a slow and enchanting ending.
