Watch the Move It online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Chord Studies: Pedal Tones Vol. 1

This example takes two chords we've already covered, Amadd9 and Fmaj7♯11/A, and moves them up the neck. You'll notice now that in our Am chord we have access to a higher melodic tone on the first string, in this case an A note. Then as always our E moves up to an F, and there you have it.

It's wise to take a voicing and move it around to different parts of the neck. Moving a voicing around can change the top or bottom notes and can also give you some great ideas - some ideas just flow more freely in certain positions. That's a great thing to practice!
