Watch the Weigh Your Options online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Chord Studies: Evolving Progressions Vol. 2
Our first chord here is a Dm9, and there are a few fingerings options. You could do a grand barre, barring all six string with the first finger, and that would help you transition easily into the G7 using your fourth finger as a guide. If you choose to play without any barre, you'll then rotate to get a half barre on strings one through three in order to facilitate the G7. It's always a good idea to look at all of the fingering options - even if they aren't the most comfortable, they can bring important technical principles into your playing.
