Watch the Flip Side online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Chord Studies: Evolving Progressions Vol. 2

Our first chord in this ii - V progression is a Dm7. This comes right out of the 5th string root barre chord form of Dm7 you already know, minus the root on the A string. In this case, we're not just moving one voice, we're actually moving a number of voicings. When you go to the G7 you'll notice that the only tone remaining constant is the F note. Let's face it - if we only changed one voicing every time there was a ii - V switch, it would get a little boring so here we look at the flip side of the coin and change three voicings and keep just one constant.
