The sound of this ii - V progression is a bit different than the others we've looked at. Although we've played the Dm7/11 in previous examples, here the G (which is the 4th or 11th of that Dm7) is now in the low register of the chord. For a more advanced fingering, try using a second finger barre in the first chord so that you roll the finger up and get the G9 without losing the sound of the fourth string.
