Watch the Barre Talk online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Chord Studies: CAGED Chords Vol. 3
Here we're going to explore some smaller chord voicings out of the CAGED system that provide some good voice leading. Our first chord is D, playing the top four strings of the CAGED E form. Barring three strings instead of the necessary two can help make it easier to transition into the A/C♯, only having to move your second finger over. Next we play a Bm using the Dm form from the EDCAG system. You'll find that if you start the progression barring four strings, it makes the switch to this chord seamless, so experiment with this idea. We finish up with a G chord using the A form.
