Watch the Beer Drinkin' online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Play in the Style of Billy Gibbons
This example is called 'Beer Drinkin'' and it of course a take off on "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers" from the great Tres Hombres record. The original version of the song is a variation on a Gm blues, for this exercise I made it a standard 12 bar minor blues. We already learned the rhythm guitar part earlier and as usual I suggest you learn how to play it as it is very cool and just as useful to know as the solo, maybe more actually! For the rhythm guitar part I use the same amp setup except I roll my volume knob back a bit and that cleans up the tone. For the solo I just turn up the volume knob. Experiment with that idea if you are not familiar with it. The amp is as much a part of your instrument tonally as the guitar is, and the greatest variations come from exploiting those options.
