Watch the Bus Waitin' online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Play in the Style of Billy Gibbons

Have Mercy! Here is a look at something similar to what BFG plays on the ZZ Top classic "Waitin' for the Bus". We have a basic A blues with an intro on the I7 chord. A very cool element of this riff is how it utilizes the open A string for the implied A7 chord. Open D string for the implied D7 chord, and open E string for the E7 chord. There are other keys that we could take advantage of the same idea. D and E excellent examples of keys that offer the use of open strings as bass notes of the chords and allow us to transpose this riff easily. As we can see from previous examples Billy uses the open strings quite a bit.
