Watch the BFGVH online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Play in the Style of Billy Gibbons

Here it is, Billy Gibbons use of tapping! I first heard it on the tune that I am borrowing the feel from called "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers". For years I didn't know that it was a tap until I saw a live video from ZZ Top. The real trick to this which sounds kind of silly, is to not miss the string that you were tapping with your right hand. It is actually easy do because you were bending that string and therefore making it easier to miss. Believe me, I have missed the string many times during this kind a lick. We can hear Van Halen use this style of tapping quite a bit. What I really like about this kind of tap is that it does not sound like what we normally associate with tapping. You know, the Eddie Van Halen "Eruption"-style of tapping. Have I mentioned how much I love Eddie Van Halen? Anyway, mess around with this tap technique - I really like it as it allows us to get some sounds we would not normally be able to with standard picking. Plus it makes you look really cool…
