Watch the Strat Cat Boogie 1 online guitar lesson by David Blacker from West Coast Blues
You can't overestimate the importance of the Fender Stratocaster on the evolution of electric blues. Its characteristic tone has been the cornerstone of great blues music for over 60 years. Because many West Coast players place so much emphasis on achieving an authentic sound, the Strat figures heavily in much of their music. Rather than rely on a Strat for every tune, it is used specifically for its bluesy attributes. Not to imply that it shouldn't be used as a main instrument, only that its unique qualities require some forethought as to the type of sound you are looking to achieve. There are a handful of West Coast-style players that wring the most out of a Strat--Stray Cat Boogie fuses together a handful of their key licks and phrases.
