Watch the Tiny's Time online guitar lesson by David Blacker from Swing Blues Survival Guide: Rhythm

In this lesson, we'll look at voicings on the top three strings in the key of Bb, inspired by some of the comping patterns played by guitarist Tiny Grimes. Tiny Grimes is a great guitarist to study for any jump/swing blues player, with a couple solo albums with The Rockin' Highlanders that are definitely worth checking out.

Tiny actually played a tenor guitar with only four strings. He tuned it so that it mirrored the top four strings on a six string guitar, DGBE. So in many ways, the limitations of the instrument had an impact on his overall sound, note and chord choices, etc.
