Watch the Jagged Blues 3 online guitar lesson by Carl Verheyen from S.W.A.T. Blues
Starting with the "Stormy Monday" 6th to 9th chord move, I use a chordal bend to simulate a steel guitar. Then I use the lower, 9th chord inversion for a country sound, hammering on with my little finger for a different chord inversion. I also demonstrate some groupings of chords used together for a melodic phrase. This is all stuff I learned when studying jazz standards and trying to write chord melodies for them. But I can apply them to the blues just as easily and it makes for some interesting vocabulary to draw upon.
