The jazz guys have always used the guide tones as a way to outline the changes in their complicated progressions. Here I play the mixolydian modes with an emphasis on the guide tones for each chord. I use D mixolydian for the I chord, G mixolydian mode for the IV chord and A mixolydian for the V chord. But I combine all of this scale material with the good old minor pentatonic blues licks that identify the style.
