Watch the Diamond Blues 9 online guitar lesson by Carl Verheyen from S.W.A.T. Blues
We're taught to play scales in boxes and unfortunately we end up taking those boxes to the stage. Traditional minor scales (played in order) have no intervals greater than minor and major seconds. So the truth is they are not really melodic in the true sense of the word. Even the major and minor pentatonic scales contain a minor 3rd, which helps open things up a bit. In this segment I play a number of larger interval lines and explain my "lick book" concept.
