By far the most important advice and solo strategy I can give you is to stop caring! Way too much emphasis is put on playing world class solos—wailing like Jimi, making your axe sing like BB, with the cutthroat intensity Stevie had, and with Robben's impeccable timing. Nobody's life depends on your solo! It's not the last one you'll ever play and probably no one in the audience is going to remember if you screwed the solo up.
Music is not a sport, nobody finishes first and we'll get a medal for showing up and trying. It's about having fun and making good music. Focus hard when you practice (and practice regularly!), but stop caring at the gig, the jam, or the band rehearsal. Most of us are not professionals, and our daily income does not depend on a single solo or a single note. Relax and stop caring already! It's a surefire strategy for the best blues and rock solos around. See ya next time!
