I like starting a lick like this on the higher strings because the chromatic nature of the first move really jumps out. Also, the lick is over a funky feel and it just works. We’re in pattern 2 here and we’re executing a chromatic move on the first string. We’re playing C, C# and D then letting the lick play out through pattern 2. This is a type of call and response lick that will work over the entire 12 bar form so use it however you’d like!
