Watch the I Love Pattern 4 online guitar lesson by Corey Congilio from Solo Factory: Texas Blues
I really do love playing in this pentatonic pattern because it resembles the box pattern yet yields new sounds. Up to this point, we’ve been focusing mostly on pentatonic sounds. This lick is a little more advanced in that it incorporates the 6th sound of the A major scale. The 6th in this case is F# and you’ll hear this note sneak out often in blues playing. The first part of the lick is actually called a 6th. The two notes are F# and D. You can also think of this as an inverted 3rd lick. Get used to doing some string skipping as you may see this approach more. Watch my right hand and notice how I execute this lick with hybrid picking.
