Watch the Harken Back online guitar lesson by Corey Congilio from Solo Factory: Texas Blues
This lick does harken back to what my hero SRV would play. This is actually more of a turnaround lick but to me the turnaround and V chord go hand in hand. You’re usually playing the V chord during the turnaround and the progression is usually moving by quickly - even in a slow blues. I like how this lick hints at playing and sitting on the root but it really doesn’t. The impact note is actually the D on the 3rd string 7th fret. This is the b7 of the E7 chord and it is a very powerful note. I love how we 1/4 step bend the D on the 5th string 5th fret too. We then land on the root of the upcoming bar which rounds the whole thing out. You’ll get plenty of use out of this one.
