Watch the Gotta Love This online guitar lesson by Corey Congilio from Solo Factory: Texas Blues

You’ll often hear players approaching licks over the IV chord from the I chord that is in the previous bar. I’ve done that on many of the examples including this one. This is another SRV inspired lick but I’ve also heard his brother Jimmie play this idea as well as countless other guitarists. You’ll get all of the tried and true techniques in one example so this should be in your arsenal immediately. What’s great about the pentatonic is that the notes in the scale always hint at or connect with the chord you’re on or transitioning to. It’s a pretty handy device which is why it is the chosen vocabulary for the blues. Have fun with yet another example in pattern 1. This time over the IV chord.
