Watch the Messin' #1 online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Solo Factory: Chicago Blues

Please take your time with this one and focus in on the vibrato and bends as they are a main element to this performance. Vibrato is there is one of the defining features of any guitar player and, therefore it should be given a huge amount of practice and effort. For years I never thought about it until it was pointed out as a weak point in my playing, I am for ever grateful to my college roommate Dorian Heartsong. I'm sure I'd have figured it out eventually, but I have never forgotten that feeling of "wow, he's right, I stink at this". I will tell you along with bends, vibrato is something I discuss with every student and look for in every guitar player. To be honest, if a player doesn't have their bends and vibrato together, I have a very hard time listening to them. It is a weakness in the basics. Now I will also tell you that I am always working on and analyzing other players vibrato to improve my own. So listen to singers, string players, and, wood wind instruments. All of these have influenced my vibrato.
