Watch the Shuffle Up #2 online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Solo Factory: Chicago Blues

This solo, like many we have encountered in this course, mixes the major and minor pentatonic scales. I cannot stress enough the importance of becoming familiar with this notion. It is a hallmark and defining sound of both Chicago and British blues. Of course we hear it in Texas blues, but not quite as much as Chicago and British styles. Pay close attention to the third of the I7 chord as we play it quite a bit. On the A7chord that note would be C#, if we bring that note down a half step to C (from the minor pentatonic scale) it becomes the b7 of the D7 chord (DF#AC). By just changing one note we are making a huge total difference. Nope how this sound is used quite a bit in this solo.
