Watch the 4x4 online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Solo Factory: Chicago Blues
The first half of 4 x 4 is a classic blues lick right out of an A minor pentatonic scale in a classic Albert King fashion. Like most of the licks in this course, and any guitar playing, we want to pay close attention to the flat third natural third interplay. We always want to tweak the flatted third just a little bit, this is an easy way to sound much better. As we continue through the lick we get into some chromatic ideas. Don't be frightened though, we are just playing notes from the b3 chromatically up to the 5th. These can all be found in the composite blues scale.
