Watch the Up Hi online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Solo Factory: Chicago Blues
An essential technique is to master playing the in-between notes. The notes that lie in-between the scale and chord tones. This lick really plays those up by tweaking the b3rd of the minor pentatonic scale by bending it up just shy of the natural 3rd. This requires a lot of hand strength, control, and ear training to get them just right. The king of these was Albert King.
