Watch the Breakdown 1 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Slow Blues Power

This solo begins with Bb minor pentatonic (Bb Db Eb F Ab) played in VI (sixth) position, combined with the Bb Blues scale (Bb Db Eb E[Fb] F Ab). I began in the pick-up bar with straight eighth-note triplets, bending the fourth, Eb, up one whole step to F, followed by F and Bb, sounding by barring the index finger across the top two strings at the sixth fret. In the subsequent phrases played across bars 1 and 2, I tried to create the feeling of “ebb and flow” in the lines by compressing (playing a lot of notes) and stretching (playing fewer notes) the phrases as they relate to the rhythmic background.
