Watch the Breakdown 5 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Slow Blues Power

At the end of bar 8 into bar 9, I transition from the lower licks to higher licks played on the top three strings, moving from the “Albert King”-like fifth-root-minor third lick on beats three into four in bar 7, followed by the “B.B. box” type licks at the start of bar 8. On beat two of bar 8, however, I immediately slide back down to fifth position for some quick licks, ala Stevie Ray Vaughan, jumping back up one again to anticipate the change to the V (five) chord, E7, in bar 9, and the use of the E Mixolydian scale (E F# G# A B C# D).
