Watch the Breakdown 4 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Slow Blues Power

In bar 6, following the series of doublestops, I move into A Blues scale licks played in I (first) position, utilizing open strings. At the very end of bar 6, I use the same fingerpicked “rolling” technique that I had used previously in bar 4 (described in Breakdown Part Two). Bar 7 brings us back to the I (one) chord, and I begin the bar with A minor pentatonic licks played in II (second) position; though this is a less commonly used position for soloing, it does offer some unique melodic possibilities as well as the incorporation of the lower strings; it’s also great when combined with the more typical “extended” position of A minor pentatonic, which I switch to on beats two and three.
