Watch the Breakdown 3 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Slow Blues Power
I jump to the IV (four) chord in bar 5, and I anticipate that change by playing a very aggressively picked fifth, D, followed by the root note, G, at the end of bar 4, which sets up the slow, melodic phrases that follow. Through this next bar, I switch to hybrid picking, which is a combination of flatpicking and fingerpicking: all notes on the high E string are picked with the tip of the pick-hand middle finger, pulling on the strings hard and snapping it back against the fretboard after it is picked. Notes on the B and G strings are sounded with the pick. Notice also the use of the “two-to-three” rhythmic equivalency.
