Watch the Combining Positions: 4 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Progressive Blues Power

This solo begins with E minor pentatonic in an extended position, moving up quickly from open position to fifth position, followed in bars 2-4 with licks based on the E major pentatonic scale. In bars 5 and 6, I combine index finger and pinkie barres across the D and G strings to play the fast repeated phrases that are made up of only three notes, B, G and E. Bars 7 and 8 see a shift to sliding sixths (pairs of notes that are six scale degrees apart), a technique explored to great extent by blues/rock greats like Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter and Jeff Beck.
