Watch the Lonesome Again online guitar lesson by David Grissom from Open Road Blues
In the solo for "Lonesome Again," I used the blues scale--or minor pentatonic depending how you look at it--in the first section, playing low in the first position. The second chorus mixes it up by establishing a major tonality right away, playing a walkdown using major thirds and hybrid picking. In the third chorus I used pedal steel pulldowns--a technique that isn't anywhere as difficult as it seems, easily accomplished with practice. I went for a Merle Haggard/Roy Nichols sound to finish off the section using hybrid picking with the pulldowns.
