Now we shift to a funk scenario and talk about manipulating the lick, at times deliberately underplaying in the "less is more" tradition. The point here is to find a happy medium between playing too minimally and playing everything that you hear, so that you allow the rhythm section to really cook. Once that stage is set, we can really start to use the lick as a springboard to build very dynamic solos, again mixing both single-note and double-stop figures all over the fingerboard.
