Watch the Phrase 1: A1 online guitar lesson by Mark Stefani from Jazzed Blues
This third CD in the Jazzed Blues series opens with a two-part lick, influenced heavily by George Benson and his creative use of sliding figures and split octaves, played over a classic minor, II-V vamp. We begin with an explanation of the key center and modes used for this chord progression. The first half of the lick involves sliding half-steps, using the 5th of the key in conjunction with other tones from the scale. Next the lick moves into broken octaves, spawning numerous creative possibilities.
