Watch the Don't You Love Me?: Rhythm 1 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 3

The repeated signature lick is based on the A blues scale (A C D Eb E G) and is played here in fifth position on the bottom three strings. A chromatic "walk up" on the fifth string is used to set up the change to D9, the four chord, after which I switch to syncopated strumming, wherein the upbeat accents take precedence as the song progresses, serving to keeping the tune upbeat and moving forward. I also like to add single-note phrases based on the A blues scale before the main riff reappears, as a means of mimicking the vocal melody. The same technique is used following the stop after the four chord towards the end of the form.
