Watch the Rollin' In Your Arms: Rhythm 1 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 3
While holding the D "cowboy" chord, I use an alternating bass approach by moving between the open D and open A strings while strumming the D chord in an eighth-note rhythm. A walk-up to the C root note is followed by a hammer-on of D to E, the major third of C. On the return to D, I bring hybrid picking into the mix by moving between the top string and the D string in a steady eighth note rhythm, fingerpicking the E string while flatpicking the B string. On the F and C chord, I like to hammer on from the open G and D strings, respectively, into the major third of each chord as a means of embellishment.
