Watch the Mall Cops: Lead 2 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2
The first eight bars of this progression are built from a four-bar pattern that is played twice, wherein a bar of Gm is followed by a bar of Cm, followed by two bars of Gm. In this solo example, I first arpeggiate the notes of a Gm triad - G Bb D - which are fretted on the top three strings and sustained and vibrato-ed, and then slide down to a Cm triad - C Eb G -which is played in the same manner. Riffs based on the G blues scale (G Bb C Db D F) are then played over the remained to bars of Gm. The progression then shifts to Dbmaj7-dm7-Gm, and here I play two-note harmonies that related specifically to each chord, with an ear for an overall melody that is both musical and memorable.
