Watch the Mall Cops: Lead 1 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2

A great way to launch into a solo is, instead of using single-notes, to use doublestops, or two-note pairs. As commonly used as thirds or sixths may be, two-note pairs a fifth apart, when played on one guitar, sound very musical as well as unpredictable. Not unlike sliding octaves, sliding two-note fifths around the fretboard will take practice to master. I begin this solo in this way, and balance this approach with single-note lines based on a vocal-type melody.
