Along with the blues, the Beatles, the Allmans and Hendrix, it's essential to have some reggae tunes in your bag of tricks when showing up to play at an open jam session. While reggae is certainly fun to play and to listen to, it also provides common ground for many musicians as so many of the songs by Bob Marley, Toots and the Maytals, and Peter Tosh have become staples of the jam night repertoire. When Bob Marley burst on the international rock scene in the mid seventies, Eric Clapton did a lot to broaden his exposure by covering what has since become Bob's biggest song, "I Shot the Sheriff," and this next example is played in this style.
