Watch the Paging Joseph: Rhythm 2 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2

This example begins with hammer-ons played up high in 12th position over the E chord, with a figure based on E minor pentatonic, shifting immediately to the aforementioned fifth- and sixth-string root chords. The simplest way to describe the approach here is to think of the appropriate major pentatonic scale for C, G, D and A, while utilizing minor pentatonic over E - this works well in that the melodic qualities of major pentatonic contrast well against the bluesy vibe of minor pentatonic. That said, it is also useful to use sliding sixth doublestops and third doublestops based on the E Mixolydian mode (E F# G# A B C# D) over the E chords.
