Watch the Paging Joseph: Rhythm 1 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2

This rhythm example begins with a hammer-on figure played in seventh position and based on E minor pentatonic, played over the E chord. For the C-G-D-A-E progression, each of the chords is executed with a combined strummed/arpeggiated approach, with every note in the chord allowed to sustain throughout. Be sure to keep the pick hand loose while strumming the 16th-note-based rhythms. For many of the chords, I simply sound the root note along with the fifth resulting in root-fifth C5, G5, D5 A5 and E5 chords; while playing through this example, be sure to examine each of these voicings and memorize them so you can recall them while playing other songs.
