One of the most successful pop tunes in the mid/late 60s was the song, "Hey Joe," recorded by artists such as The Byrds, The Leaves, Tim Hardin and, most famously, by Jimi Hendrix. The chord progression, played in the key of C (with a final resolution to E major) is based on a repeated cycle of fifths: C-G-D-A-E. You will hear this same progression in other pop hits of the day, such as "Hush" by Deep Purple and "A Day in the Life' by the Beatles.
